A Lame Post

I do a post every week and usually I do an update of what Kade's been up to in the past week.  This week we've been up to a whole lot of nothing.  It's too cold to play outside and it's too nasty to drive anywhere.  We've been holed up in the house, silently cursing ourselves for choosing to live in a state that seems to be perpetually COLD!

In other news, we've been playing a lot of basketball in the basement so basketball is back on top of being Kade's favorite sport!  Whew! :-)

Just a few pictures of my babies...

Don't mind the creeper in the background.  Just focus on those amazing blue eyes.

And my furry baby.  It's a good thing she's still cute because that's about all she has going for her.

A Week of Firsts

This past weekend we attended our first ever hockey game!  Tim (Owen, Ellie and Rylee's dad) is a varsity coach and his team had a Saturday afternoon game.  Kade's been really into hockey ever since Christmas, when aunt Erin gave him a hockey stick.  It was a great opportunity to take Kade to a game, not to mention it was Megan's "29th" (wink, wink) birthday and she needed her BF to help her celebrate.

I think it might've been his last hockey game (if it were up to me) because he's obsessed now!  Unfortunately that means basketball has taken a backseat.  I guess that's better than wrestling though, right? :-)  He couldn't take his eyes off the game.  He had so many questions (so did Erik and I) and Owen, who's 6, answered them all so patiently for us.

On our way home I asked Kade if he liked basketball or hockey better.  It was a very loud and definitive "HOCKEY!!".  So, I asked Erik the same question.  He very slowly, loudly and deliberately answered, "BASKETBALL".  But it didn't work, 4 days later Kade's answer is still hockey.  Looks like a Gopher BB or Timberwolves game is in our near future :-)

Kade and his idol, Owen, cheering on the Avalanche hockey team.

Rylee (2), Ellie (4), Kade (3), Owen (6)

Not only is he holding a hockey stick, he's wearing a Badgers jersey!  Where did we go wrong??? :-)

We discovered Owen and Kade both have the disgusting talent of picking their nose without the use of fingers.  Proud Parents.

The other first we had this week was his first trip to the dentist!  I was kind of dreading it.  I thought it was going to be a complete waste of time because I assumed he'd be hiding behind my legs the entire time, not to mention the teeth brushing battles we have every single day.

Umm, no.  He did AMAZING!  He even told me I didn't have to come with him because he's a big boy.  He hopped right up in the chair and opened his mouth wide before he was even asked!  They counted his teeth (20, they're all in), flossed, did a full cleaning with the rinse and suction, and a fluoride application!

Kade chatted with the hygienist, answered all of his questions and even high fived him.  Who is this big boy and what happened to my extremely shy Kade?!?!  Both the dentist and the hygienist said he did better than most 5 year olds they see!  After it was all done Kade said, "I love this, Mama!"  I was so proud, I had tears in my eyes.

He got all of the usual goodies after a dentist visit.  But, I have to say, his choice of sticker was a bit unusual....

Kade's daycare has been hit by fevers and colds.  Ahh, the joys of winter!  He's never been sick enough to take to the doctor (besides pink eye, once) so he's never been prescribed medicine he's had to ingest.  This means when we have to give him Tylenol, it's a battle.

Last night he got so worked up at the thought of taking it, he threw up a couple times.  When we finally got him to swallow it, he loved it!  Ahh, the joys of reasoning with a 3 year old!  I tried to tell him, I even took some to show him it was good (the stuff is so sweet it makes you gag after you taste it, not before).

Gotta love a 10 minute meltdown, a shirt full of Tylenol that was spit out on you, a sticky floor from Tylenol being spit out on it, and a couple pukes only to get a big smile at the end and an, "I love medicine!" proclamation.

Showing off the shirt my brother got him for Christmas.

Construction Man Kade!

Fireman Kade!  We bought that tractor on the wall when we thought we were going to have to move his room to the basement.  Kade and I finally put it up last week, when Erik got home from work Kade showed it to him and said, "Now my room is the Party Room!".  I'm going to save that sticker for when Kade goes to college!  We'll see if he still thinks a tractor wall decal = PARTY!!!

Kade's work jeans have been lost for the past 4 days.  He wore them on Saturday but after he changed into sweatpants (because he was done working and moving onto playing, so naturally you change your outfit, right?) the work jeans disappeared off the face of the earth.  We looked everywhere!  I was beginning to think he threw them away!!  Not that I would've been too disappointed if they were gone but they've been such a fixture on Kade's body for so long I feel like, when their time comes, we should give them a proper send off.

Also, how does one lose a pair of pants you just had on?  I was baffled and I'd made it my personal mission to find them, if only to satisfy my curiosity.  It should be mentioned that I'm missing some gloves too, so I was hoping they were all in the same place.  They weren't.  I found the jeans today.  They were stuck under his clothes hamper, between the lining and the inside/bottom of the hamper.  Gloves are still lost.  I'm very excited to tell Kade the great news when I pick him up!  Today I gave Kade the option of grocery shopping with me or going to daycare.  He chose daycare.

Surprisingly he wasn't as devastated as I thought he'd be!  If this had happened 3 weeks ago we would've had a meltdown everyday til they were found.  However, since we now have a style guru in our midst, he was able to pick a different outfit without any drama.  So, maybe I shouldn't tell him I found the jeans??  No, I feel like we should all be present when we finally say adios to the most worn pair of pants in the history of 2 & 3 year olds.

These pictures were taken before we went down in history as being the coldest area on the planet AND parts of Mars.  That was awesome.  Not really.

Erik worked so hard on building that big wall.  And he gave me a hard time for my crappy, little wall Kade is behind.  However....
After their picture was taken, Erik's wall tipped over!  And nobody touched it!  And look whose crappy, little wall is still standing!  That explains my extemely big smile.  I love winning :-)

Apparently, according to Erik, you aren't an "official farm kid" until you've been pulled on a sled behind a 4-wheeler.  Kade loved it!  I'm still not an official farm kid.

A New Year, A New Kade

Something very strange happened in the week between Christmas and New Year.  Kade started caring what he looked like.  He's started combing his hair, multiple times a day.  Using water on his comb to tame the hair that perpetually sticks up in the back.  He runs to the bathroom after every activity to check the mirror and make sure his hair is still "sticking down".  He even refuses to put a hat on for worry that it will ruin his hair.  Is he 3 or 13?!?!

He's also started wearing long sleeve shirts!  We've been tearing our hair out trying to get him to wear something other than a t-shirt since the weather turned chilly.  It was a battle we gave up on, then one day he woke up, dressed himself and came out in a long sleeve!  He's been wearing them ever since. He even wore a sweatshirt, with a hood, the other day!  It was a Christmastime miracle :-)

He's not done there!  He's started branching out his pants attire as well.  In addition to the work jeans, which are still heavy in rotation, he's been wearing sweatpants!  He even came out in his church khakis the other day!  To wear around the house!  Who is this kid?!

This isn't a very good picture but it's the one I sent to Erik for proof that he chose a long sleeve and sweats to wear.  He hadn't had a chance to fix his hair yet :-)

Hair? Check!  New clothes? Check!  "Stud Mans"?  Check and check!!

Hanging out in his comfy, cozy sleepwear.  He put his robe on and said, "Now I look just like a Grandma C!"  Let's hope he doesn't always aspire to look like a grandma :-)

I couldn't decide which of these pictures I liked better, so I just posted both.
