Vacation 2: Part 2

We had sunshine every day, which means the kids were fishing, swimming or tubing from sun up to sun down!  There's 168 hours in the week and Mason and Isaac were fishing for 130 of them.  Rarely we could get them to come in to eat, usually we'd just walk a plate of food out to them.

I took my supervising responsibilities seriously.
Someone had to nap with the puppy!

More fishing!

The night before, Erik had thrown the line into the water so no one stepped on a hook.  The next morning Mason was getting his pole ready and reeling in the line.  All of the sudden he yelled, "I caught a catfish!!"  Sure enough, there was a small catfish on the line!!  It had been on there for some time, it was all tangled in the line and definitely exhausted.  Only Mason.

These kids are getting bigger and braver when it comes to riding the tube....

"mooning" us...

and surfing.

The old mom's even took a leisurely ride.
We didn't last long though, a bit too bumpy and splashy for us old gals.

Grandpa made his annual fishing plaques for the kids!

An hour after we got home, vacations are exhausting!

Vacation 2: Part 1

Exactly 1 month ago we were on vacation!  Better late than never to post about it, right?  We rented a couple cabins in Hayward with Erik's family.  The weather was awesome, it was sunny every day so we were able to do a ton of fishing, swimming, tubing and water skiing.  Of course I didn't take enough pictures but there's enough to split them into 2 posts.

The drive up, Trixie came too!
You can barely see her between the boys.
(we didn't have Lola yet)

Killing time before check in, Mason giving me a heart attack on top of the dam.

Kade tried waterskiing for the first time on this vacation.
I snapped this picture while Jay was getting the skis out.  He was a little nervous!

But excited!

Instructions from Jenna

And he's up!  He got up on his first try!!
He held on for a bit but fell when he went outside of the wake.
I'm not sure he loved it, he said the boots hurt his ankles.  Kade's first inclination is always to be negative/mad when he does something.  He's like that after his games too.  Then, the more you talk about it with him, the more he realizes how much fun he had.  I think it was the same for skiing.  He tried it a couple more times on the trip, and got up each time, but still didn't love the feel of the boots.

Popcorn and movie with cousins!

Lola

Ok, I say this EVERY post but I really have never been this far behind!  We've had a vacation, a camping trip, gotten another new puppy AND had school start and I haven't posted about any of it!!
So, I'm going completely out of order and introducing our newest new puppy, Lola!!  She's a mini goldendoodle and will probably get to be about 30 pounds when full grown.  She's amazing and we all love her so much already.
We've been joking that Trixie takes after Kade (never ending energy and non-stop go, go, go mixed in with a little bit of sass) and Lola takes after Mason (she's pretty laid back, entertains herself and doesn't mind a good snuggle and nap on the couch).  She's also already given us a little scare when I had to take her to the emergency vet because she wouldn't stop throwing up.  Again, she takes after Mason as he's been to the emergency room 2 times too many as well!!
It's always been my plan to get 2 dogs.  1 for the boys (Lola) and 1 for me (Trixie).  The boys do enjoy both dogs but Trixie is very much Erik's and Lola is very much Erik's.  Yes, both puppies favor Erik and even though he didn't want either of them, he loves to rub it in my face when he's got both dogs snuggling with him.
It's worked out quite well that they're so close in age because they play together and wear each other out.  It has NOT worked out well in the potty training arena.  Holy Hannah, we've got work to do.  I just keep telling myself "1 day at a time" but maybe it's more like "1 hour at a time".  We'll get there, in the meantime we're just enjoying the snuggles and the puppy cuteness overload.
