While in Hill City we took the steam engine tour. We did the same ride back in 2013 when it was just me, Erik and Kade. So of course I had to do a photo recreation!
Mason and grandpa had fun watching them fill the train with water and get the steam going.
I can’t remember if I mentioned that we made the mistake of going the week of Sturgis rally week. Motorcycles for as far as the eye could see, everywhere we went!
Mason wanted to go to the reptile garden, while Kade and Erik found yet another mini golf course. Mason was in reptile heaven! He literally ran to every exhibit.
We did wildlife loop and didn’t see much wildlife at the beginning. We thought it was going to be a bust until we came across this big fella. Then all of the sudden animals were everywhere!
I insisted we do the Cosmos tour. It was so cool!! It definitely messed with your perception!
Of course Mason had to pan for treasures!
And probably the biggest memory of the trip:
The night before we were heading home Mason and Erik were fishing. Mason got his hook stuck in the tree. Just as Erik was saying, “don’t yank!” he heard an “oh no”. Yep, mason yanked and the trout hook was lodged. So deep into his forearm that all you could see was the line sticking out.
So into Rapid City to the nearest emergency room we went!
It took a few hours but thankfully the hook had bent itself straight before lodging itself into mason’s arm. So it didn’t take much to take it out! Whew!
