Fall Catch Up

I never thought I’d be this bad at keeping up with the blog!  It’s true what they say, they get older but they’re still just as busy!  Just a different kind of busyness.

This was Mason’s first year of tackle football.  To say he was made for this sport is an understatement!  His whole life he’s been a bull in a China shop.  Accidentally running into kids, knocking them down.  And constantly being told to focus and calm down.  Now he gets to shove kids down on purpose?!!?  Adults are yelling at him to shove them harder?!!  YES PLEASE!  He played center and my favorite moment was him hiking the ball and shoving the kid in front of him 10 yards back 😆
Honestly, I don’t even know if Mason truly knows the rules of the game.  He just knows to shove the kid down in front of him and then look for other kids to knock down.  Because when Erik (who coached Mason’s team) said something about a 3rd down, Mase stopped him and said “what’s a down?”  Oh Mase.

The Naughty Niners in pads?  Oh boy!
This will be a fun group to watch through out the years!

Kade played his second junior high season of football.
He was the kicker, the quarterback and….something on defense.  I don’t know what 😆
I just know my mama heart doesn’t beat the whole time he’s playing because as the QB, he’s targeted the whole game.  Whereas Mason’s job is exact opposite!  I’ve never been so confused 😂

Mason’s First day of school!
Kade started a few weeks later because of construction.

Mason’s team got to play on a Saturday night under the lights on the varsity field!!  SUCH a cool experience!!!

While in Hill City we took the steam engine tour.  We did the same ride back in 2013 when it was just me, Erik and Kade.  So of course I had to do a photo recreation!

Mason and grandpa had fun watching them fill the train with water and get the steam going.

I can’t remember if I mentioned that we made the mistake of going the week of Sturgis rally week.  Motorcycles for as far as the eye could see, everywhere we went!

Mason wanted to go to the reptile garden, while Kade and Erik found yet another mini golf course.  Mason was in reptile heaven!  He literally ran to every exhibit.

We did wildlife loop and didn’t see much wildlife at the beginning.  We thought it was going to be a bust until we came across this big fella.  Then all of the sudden animals were everywhere!

I insisted we do the Cosmos tour.  It was so cool!!  It definitely messed with your perception!

Of course Mason had to pan for treasures!

And probably the biggest memory of the trip:
The night before we were heading home Mason and Erik were fishing.  Mason got his hook stuck in the tree.  Just as Erik was saying, “don’t yank!” he heard an “oh no”.  Yep, mason yanked and the trout hook was lodged.  So deep into his forearm that all you could see was the line sticking out.
So into Rapid City to the nearest emergency room we went!
It took a few hours but thankfully the hook had bent itself straight before lodging itself into mason’s arm.  So it didn’t take much to take it out!  Whew!
